TRUTH FOR TODAY
Glenn E. Hawkins, Evangelist
FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS
In instituting the Lord’s Supper on the night He was betrayed, Jesus said of the cup, “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28). Then on Pentecost, Peter commanded those who wanted to know what to do to be saved, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). The blood Jesus shed was in order to obtain (for) the remission of sins. Repent and be baptized is also in order to obtain (for) the remission of sins. Why do we accept the first statement but not the second?
